Many people think the secret to long lasting beauty lies at the bottom of an expensive jar of product. However, it’s the things you do on a daily basis, which have a greater effect on your appearance, wellbeing and youthful spirit. Daily health rituals can be very simple to do and have a huge impact on your ability to recharge, repair and withstand the stress of 21st century life.
Here are some daily habits you should embrace this month:
1. Drink at least two litres of water
You may hear this again and again but many people still struggle to drink two litres a day. The easiest way to keep your body hydrated is to have a jug nearby. If you’re at work, keep it on your desk and aim to drink it all before going home. If you’re dehydrated, the hydration heads to other organs in your body instead of your skin which causes your skin to dry out and age more rapidly.
2. Get plenty of sleep
Eliminate the under eye bags, feel more refreshed and power up your body for the day by getting plenty of Z’s. Sleep is essential for survival and means your organs can do their job properly. For optimum health and a more beautiful you, aim for at least seven hours of sleep every night!
Skin cells turn over constantly so it’s important to remove the dead residue and make room for healthy skin. Exfoliate once or twice a week to keep that healthy glow. You can even do it the natural way by combining salt, sugar and coconut oil into a paste and scrubbing all over your skin.
4. Stay in the shade
Ultraviolet rays are a major culprit when it comes to ageing. They break down collagen, thin the cells in your skin and create skin irritations and pigmentation. Remember to wear a hat or make sure you have access to shade from a tree, an umbrella or shelter.
5. Stop the stress
When you’re stressed, cortisol increases in your body causing dry skin and wrinkles. To reduce stress, try yoga and meditation at regular times during the week. Meditate or take a yoga class during your lunch breaks or start your day by bringing some Zen into your life.
