Nothing cleanses the soul and revitalises the body quite like mountain air. As the temperatures start to drop and we slip into winter, why not take a trip to the snowy mountains?
Whether it be for a romantic escape or peaceful self-exploration you can’t go wrong with a breath of fresh air, a snuggle next to a burning fire or the rush of adrenaline skiing down a snow capped winter wonderland.
For those who are well acquainted with the snowy mountain region of New South Wales, you might know the two main two ski fields are Perisher Blue and Thredbo. If you’re new to skiing or boarding and are looking for less challenging beginner slopes to master, then Charlotte’s Pass and Mount Selwyn might also be the place for you.
If you’re not a skier there are also lovely places to go walking and horse riding – particularly around Lake Jindabyne.
For a tasty lunch – one of the cosiest and freshest options in the Perisher resort area can be found in Guthega village at the Guthega Pub. It’s a ski in/ski out, very friendly little chateau. Or you can also walk up to it from the Guthega car park if you’re driving through the mountains. Although it’s not exclusively vegetarian, their vegetarian options are flavoursome and plentiful. On a sunny day the tables outside provide breathtaking views across the river and over the rugged vista of the main range.
The Australian Alps really are a place of stunning views, the cleanest air and lots of delightful accommodation options where you can rest and recover your wellbeing this winter.
