Why should we avoid alcohol?
Alcohol is highly addictive and harms the body, putting enormous stress on the liver. Even if we stick to a healthy diet and only drink occasionally, it’s important to know your limits and never drink to excess.
Alcohol is a toxic substance and unless you live an extremely healthy lifestyle, and consume a limited amount, it is highly likely that it will have damaging effects. There are numerous studies on the effects of alcohol consumption, including but not limited to, risk of colon and throat cancer, brain and liver damage and, in high doses, it can be lethal.
While in some cultures limited drinking is considered beneficial,
“The latest dietary guidelines make it clear that no one should begin drinking alcohol or drink more often on the basis of potential health benefits. Indeed, for some people avoiding alcohol is the best course — the possible benefits don’t outweigh the risks.” – https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/alcohol/art-20044551
While a single glass of red wine contains a very high level of antioxidants, you can achieve the same antioxidant benefits from a glass of dark grape juice instead and avoid any of the negative risks of alcohol.
