Are you gluten free? Nut free? Struggling to get your daily dose of nutrients or looking for something to mix it up a little? Introducing Teff.
Originating from Ethiopia and Eritrea this ancient grain has become the next fad in super foods! Teff is the smallest grain in the World – about the size of a sesame seed and comes in shades of white, dark brown and red.
Packed full of energy and great for natural muscle toning, Teff is high in protein and amino acids. Extremely low in GI and bursting with fibre, which is great for getting our stomach working if faced with stiff stool.
Teff’s carbohydrate levels are reasonably high however, which is great news if you’re planning a slightly higher level of exercise the next day.
If you’re looking to include Teff in your next meal here are some suggestions of where you might include it. Try adding it to:
- baked goods such as muffins, cakes or bread
- porridge, or
- your next soup or boiled veggie dishes.
Teff can also be dry roasted and tossed into a salad for an extra dash of vibrant flavour.
