We all live reasonable busy lifestyles. As we get tired and rundown it becomes easy to lose focus on our wellness.
So, take a few minutes now to assess how you are feeling. Do you lack energy? Could you feel healthier? Happier? Perhaps it is time for a physical and mental spring clean.
Below we share some tips to help you kick start your wellbeing this spring.
• Meal prep
As your week fills up with work, school and social commitments it is easy to forget to plan ahead. This is when unhealthy eating creeps in and a trip to the closest fast food feast can set your wellbeing back months. Take 10 minutes each weekend to plan out your meals for the coming week. Not only will you be saving your body, but you might also just be saving money as well. When you plan in advance, buying in bulk can be your friend.
• Clean up the pantry and fridge
Temptation can be the hardest thing to resist. So if you’ve decided to kick-start your health goals, the last thing you want is a tub of chocolate spread catching your eye every morning. Take stock of your cupboard and fridge. Out with the old and in with the new. Don’t feel you have to throw away perfectly good food either. If you have unopened goods that are still in date you can donate them to your nearest food bank or shelter.
• Get ready for your day
If you are not a morning person it can be hard to feel bright eyed, smiley and ready for the day. This doesn’t have to be the case! A few easy to do morning rituals can help set your day on the right track. Make the bed, do some light exercise, have a shower, eat a light breakfast and listen to your favourite playlist on the way to work or your morning commitments. Explore what helps you to get up on the right side of the bed and then it will be easy to smile every morning!
• Do something nice for yourself
When you get a free hour and there are a million things you could be doing for your work, your friends, your children or family – don’t forget how important it is to look after your own wellbeing. Make time for yourself this spring. Whether it’s a manicure and pedicure, a relaxing massage, reading a book or taking a long walk – find an hour or so every week to do something for yourself. You deserve to be happy.
• Don’t underestimate the power of a 10 minute meditation
Podcasts are currently one of the top trending means of online entertainment. These include fantastic meditation resources. These can also be found on a number of different sites such as Sound Cloud and youtube. Challenge yourself to take a 10 minute meditation break every day this spring and you will be surprised how much it improves your wellbeing.
• Reduce your screen time
Give your brain and your eyes break by reducing your screen time away from work. Set yourself a minimum of half an hour a day or less – and see how much better you feel after a week. Try reading instead of watching television, doing a real puzzle instead of one that’s online and talk to friends or family instead of spending hours on Facebook and Instagram!
