The festive season can be a stressful time for everyone. With visiting relatives, gift-giving anxiety or just the holiday anthems on repeat throughout the home. We are sharing some of our favourite holiday stress relievers to keep you cool this festive season.
It’s ok to feel anxious and overwhelmed by the festive season. Using these strategies below can help you find some joy and allow you to have more fun.
Do it when it suits you
The festive season doesn’t creep up on us, it bursts in uninvited on November 1st! Work gets more frantic as the pressure mounts to get the year’s tasks completed before the holidays. End of year celebrations are fantastic in many ways, but they also take time. It can all leave you feeling unprepared for the holidays themselves. The secret is to do your preparations when it suits you and with online shopping and extended store opening hours it’s never been easier ….even if that means you choose gifts and plan menus in the middle of the night!
Not only does the festive season burst onto the scene, but it can take up a lot of space. From decorations, to piles of presents, large family gatherings. If these are pressure points for you, make room for quiet time so you can get away from it all and destress when you need to.
Try creating a festive free space this season, an area with no ties or reminders of the frivolity happening around you. This could be a bedroom or an office or a place in your yard. A space that allows you to retreat when necessary and clear your mind.
Remember what is important
The holidays mean so much to so many people. Try to work out and remember what is important to you. Is it spending time with family, the traditions, the parties with loved ones, the delicious lunches or just getting time off from work? Understanding what’s important to you and remembering that will help you experience joy in the holiday season. More specifically, it will help you prioritise your time, and mental space to focus on what matters, whatever that is for you.
