Teas to boost your immunity

As the weather gets colder, we often become more vulnerable to colds and flus. Rather than relying on cold and flu medications, there are natural ways that we can boost our immune system so we can prevent and recover from colds.

Drinking tea is a great way to keep warm and certain types of tea can also fight infections and help you stay well. Here are five teas that can help to boost your immunity:

1. Ginger tea
Ginger contains antioxidants that help to boost the immune system. It has a powerful anti-inflammatory effect and can help to remedy colds and viruses due to its antiviral properties.

2. Turmeric tea
Turmeric also has strong anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antiviral properties which support the immune system. These benefits come from the compound curcumin which isn’t easily absorbed into the body. It’s important to add black pepper as it will help your body to absorb the curcumin.

3. Green tea
Green tea is rich in antioxidants such as catechins. Studies have shown that catechins can prevent people from coming down with flus and colds.

4. Chamomile tea
The phenolic compounds in chamomile tea can help to strengthen the immune system and protect the body from pathogens. Other compounds in chamomile tea can also have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects. Studies have also found that chamomile tea can improve sleep.

5. Echinacea tea
Echinacea is often recommended to prevent and relieve colds and flus. It is high in antioxidants and can support the immune system by helping the body to fight infections. Echinacea can also minimise cold and flu symptoms such as minor aches and pains, and a sore throat.

If you’re feeling run down or are starting to get a sniffle, try drinking one of these teas.
