Reset and rebalance: a gentle juice cleanse

The festive season often leaves many of us feeling sluggish, bloated, or simply in need of a reset. January is the perfect time to support your body gently, and a Hopewood-style juice cleanse offers a mindful, nourishing way to do so.

At Hopewood, we believe that food is medicine. Our approach to juice fasting focuses on fresh, predominantly vegetable juices, chosen to provide essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Unlike extreme cleanses, it emphasizes a gentle detox and supports your body with simple, nurturing methods. By temporarily simplifying your diet, your digestive system gets a gentle break, while your body receives concentrated nutrients to help restore energy, clarity and vitality.

A juice cleanse is often combined with other holistic practices, plenty of rest, drinking herbal teas, spending time in fresh air, and engaging in gentle movement. This holistic approach helps the body reset while promoting overall wellbeing.

Many people find that even a short, juice cleanse can help reset cravings, improve digestion and leave them feeling lighter and more energised. It’s also a chance to reconnect with the rhythm of nature and the natural flavours of fresh produce.

Preparation is key. As delicious as boxed breakfast juice can be, the base of your diet needs to be carefully planned and fresh ingredients are vital to ensure your body gets the nutrients it needs.

Depending on your body and your current diet, if you’re completing the detox at home, you should only detox for up to three days. Any longer than this period may result in adverse effects. We also recommend consulting with a naturopath for guidance and support throughout your detox.

To avoid side effects from abrupt changes, we recommend easing into a cleanse by increasing water intake and eating more fresh fruits and vegetables in the week beforehand. Reduce processed foods, alcohol, caffeine and heavy animal products. This simple step helps the body transition smoothly into a reset.

During the cleanse, you should drink juice approximately every 2 hours, aiming for 6–8 servings a day depending on your needs. Avoid intense physical activity, as you may feel more fatigued than usual. Listen to your body: if needed, swap a juice for a smoothie or light solid food. Discontinue the cleanse if you experience negative effects or prolonged discomfort.

After the cleanse you should reintroduce solid foods gradually to prevent overwhelming your system. Continue drinking plenty of water and enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, heavily processed foods, and rich animal products for a few days post-cleanse.

Starting the year with a Hopewood-style juice cleanse is not about deprivation or extremes. It’s about creating space for renewed energy, clarity, and intention. With this gentle, holistic approach, you can step into the new year feeling refreshed, balanced, and truly nourished.
