DIY bath bombs
Add some luxury to your bath with a homemade bath bomb. Not only are they fun to watch as they fizz and dissolve, but they can help to soothe and soften your skin and relax you. Here’s an easy do-it-yourself bath bomb that you can make. It’s great if you need some pampering or it can make a lovely gift.
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/2 cup citric acid
- 1/2 cup Epsom salts
- 1/2 cup corn starch
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon olive oil (can substitute with almond, jojoba or avocado oil)
- Food colouring (optional)
- 5 drops essential oil of choice
- Bath bomb moulds*
- Combine the dry ingredients in a medium-sized bowl.
- Microwave the coconut oil until melted and pour into a cup. Stir in food colouring. Add olive oil and essential oil and mix well with a spoon.
- Use your hands to combine the coconut oil mixture with the dry ingredients, breaking apart any chunks. The texture should be like wet sand.
- Pack the mixture into the bath bomb moulds until it’s overflowing and firmly press the halves together.
- Freeze for 20 minutes. To remove from the moulds, warm the sides with your hands until the bath bomb pops out.
- Store in an airtight container.
- Fill your bath with warm water and place the bath bomb in.
- The bath bomb will fizz and dissolve, releasing the scent and skin-softening agents.
- Soak in the bath for 20-30 minutes.
*If you don’t have bath bomb moulds, you can use muffin trays, silicone muffin moulds or ice cube trays.
