Research has shown that meditation may be beneficial for cardiovascular and mental health. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a specific approach that integrates meditation and gentle hatha yoga. MBSR has been shown to be an effective and safe means for reducing stress. Participants will be able to access exercise, yoga and breathing videos through the LIVEPLUS app.
The app will deliver the intense lifestyle program including diet, exercise and mindfulness regimes to one trial group and compare results to those in the conventional healthy lifestyle program control group. The app is not a treatment in itself, but is designed to monitor and encourage participants to follow the intervention.
