Aqua Aerobics
Aqua aerobics is one of our favourites, it is a great way to mix up your exercise routine. The main advantage of exercising in water is that it offers resistance in all directions. Compared to exercising on land where you must work against gravity.
Aqua aerobics increases muscular endurance and tone and increases flexibility. Exercising in water offers buoyancy, supporting up to 50% of your body weight. The water’s resistance against your movement results in higher workout intensity than land exercises. However, your body will feel more supported and less stressed.
Who benefits from aqua aerobics?
Aqua aerobics is fantastic for anyone who wants to diversify their workout routine. It is particularly beneficial for anyone at risk from bodily stress, including the elderly, overweight and those recovering from soft tissue injury. This is due to the cushioning effect that water provides and the lowered impact on joints.
What can I expect in a class?
Classes are offered at most local pools, and they will be able to help you get started. Everything you need should be provided by your pool for use during the class. You will be involved in a whole-body workout that will involve many of the dame exercises you would expect in a ‘dry’ class. You will be exposed to new equipment like aqua dumbbells, kickboards, and hydro discs.
We recommend you give aqua aerobics a go, it may become your new favourite form of exercise.
