Summer skin after the sun

By March, our skin often carries the gentle imprint of summer after all that warmth, sunlight, salt, and the occasional long day spent outdoors. While summer leaves its glow, it can also leave skin feeling dry, sensitive, or slightly depleted. Now is the perfect time to restore balance, focusing on gentle, nourishing care rather than drastic fixes.
Restoring skin begins from within. Hydration is essential: water, herbal teas, and water-rich fruits and vegetables help replenish moisture and support natural cellular repair. Foods rich in antioxidants, such as berries, leafy greens, and citrus, help counteract sun-related stress, while healthy fats from avocados, nuts, seeds, and olive oil maintain elasticity and glow. Integrating these into family meals makes skin care a shared ritual rather than an individual task.
External care should be simple and soothing. Gentle exfoliation helps remove dull, sun-exposed cells without over-stripping natural oils. Light moisturisers and plant-based oils, such as jojoba, rosehip, or almond, nourish and protect the skin barrier.
Short, calming facial massages improve circulation and can even become a mindful evening ritual for parents and children alike, teaching the next generation that self-care is normal, restorative, and enjoyable.
Sun-safe practices remain important: hats, protective clothing, and broad-spectrum SPF help preserve the skin’s health while still allowing enjoyment of being outdoors in late-summer. Daily application of sunscreen reinforces both routine and mindfulness.
Above all, approach your skin care with intention and gentleness. This isn’t about perfection or correcting damage — it’s about supporting the skin’s natural rhythm, replenishing what summer has used, and enjoying simple, sensory rituals that leave you feeling cared for, grounded, and radiant.
