Simple skincare tips

Changes in the seasons and the weather can affect the appearance of our skin. Keep one step ahead by regularly treating your body and your skin to a natural detox. It’s easy – just follow this simple skin skincare routine:

Rehydrate at night
As the temperature drops, it’s very important to make hydration a top priority in your daily skincare regime. Using central heating in the home during winter can dehydrate your skin.

During the night, our skin tries to repair itself and requires lots of moisture. To help it along use a natural night cream, facial oil or overnight mask. This can keep your skin hydrated while you sleep and help you to wake up looking fresh. If you apply any creams and masks at night, make sure they don’t contain pore blocking ingredients such as mineral oil, as this will prevent your skin from breathing naturally.

Switch to herbal tea
Caffeine dehydrates your skin. It isn’t just in coffee – caffeine is also in teas including black tea and green tea. To avoid aging your skin prematurely, switch to herbal teas like peppermint and chamomile. Many herbal teas have high amounts of antioxidants which can help to hydrate you and keep you warm during the colder nights too!

Exfoliate weekly
Increase your skin’s cell turnover by exfoliating at least once a week. Exfoliation removes dull and tired skin and promotes a radiant, youthful appearance. This is particularly important in winter because dead skin cells block moisture from getting through to your new skin cells.

Apply products with SPF
Just because it’s cold, doesn’t mean we won’t be exposed to harmful UV rays. Particularly in Australia, these damaging solar rays remain high year-round. Avoid premature aging by using creams with SPF. Also, don’t forget to protect the delicate skin on your lips by applying an SPF lip balm when you’re going outside.
