The art of mindfulness
-
Mindfulness:
- The quality or state of being conscious or aware of something.
- A mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.
It is easy to find ourselves caught up in the daily hustle and bustle, living in a stress filled environment with growing frustration.
Mindfulness is about focusing on living in the present. This means not dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. You don’t have to be guru to practise mindfulness – you can develop mindfulness during regular activities such as walking, driving or even brushing your teeth. Focusing on small things such as your breathing, how you are feeling or details in your surroundings has the power to create moments of peace which really positively impact both your mental and physical health.

There are many benefits of mindfulness, including:

- Having more balance in life
- Developing self-acceptance and self-compassion, and
- Learning that thoughts and feelings come and go.
