Home workout tips

You don’t need a gym, fine weather, or fancy equipment to get moving. You can work out from the comfort of your own home! It’s convenient and can save you time and money. Plus, you can hop straight in the shower when you’re done.

Stay on track with your fitness goals with these home workout tips.

Create your workout space
Find a spot in your home where you can do your workouts. Anywhere you can fit a yoga mat should provide enough space for you to move around. If possible, try to choose a different space from where you eat, work and relax. If you don’t have one already, we recommend investing in a yoga mat as it will provide a comfortable and stable surface on which to exercise.

Minimise distractions
It can be hard to exercise when things around you are taking your attention. There are some simple ways to reduce distractions. You can turn your mobile phone to silent and divert the landline to answer phone. If you share your home with others, you could put a sign on the door to let them know not to disturb you.

Make use of what you have
No weights? No problem. There are various bodyweight exercises you can do to burn fat and build muscle such as push ups, squats and planks. You can also use common household items as weights, such as tinned goods, a bag of rice or water bottles. Perhaps you have a resistance band around the house that you can use.

Take advantage of the internet
Once you’re all set up, it’s time to get moving. But what do you do for your workout? Fortunately, there are many free workouts available online. You can find guided workout videos to follow along to as well as workout plans with exercise instructions. Simply decide what type of workout you are looking for and type it into a search engine. You’ll be sure to find something interesting. And you can always modify exercises to suit your abilities and your environment.
